Two Men Tragically Killed are Identified in Interstate 75 Crash in Valdosta, Georgia

November 18, 2019

VALDOSTA, GA – According to an online news report at, two men who tragically lost their lives in an accident on Interstate 75 earlier this week have been identified as a 23-year-old man and a 24-year old man.*

Members of the deceased men’s family indicate that they were from Atlanta and frequently traveled to work in Florida, per a statement from the Lowndes County Coroner.

The two men were occupants in a rental car that became engulfed in flames after crashing into a tractor-trailer in the early morning hours close to mile marker 15 on Interstate 75.

A tire on the rental vehicle “went down,” which caused the car to slam into the rail in the middle of the interstate, per the Lowndes sheriff.  The car then rotated and came to rest prior to being perpendicular to traffic.  After the first impact, a tractor-trailer collided with the rental vehicle, which caused it to become engulfed in flames.  It appears that the tractor of the semi-truck also caught fire.  This caused the rental vehicle to continue for another 250 to 300 feet while the tractor-trailer went into the shoulder of the interstate, per the sheriff.

The driver of the tractor-trailer survived the crash.  The two men in the rental vehicle tragically died at the scene of the accident.  The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating the crash.

The South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Medical Services, Valdosta Fire Department,  and the Lowndes County Fire Rescue were all dispatched to the accident scene.

Per the coroner, “[t]hanks to the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County fire units for a swift response and great teamwork. These types of calls are hard. Hard on everyone that answers that call: firemen, medics, troopers, coroners, tow truck operators, dispatchers, everyone.”
