Hit-and-Run Suspect Apprehended in Austintown, Ohio
AUSTINTOWN, OH – According to an online news report at wfmj.com, a man from Canfield was captured and in the hospital after fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy and striking a trash collector.*
The Ohio State Highway Patrol indicates that a trooper driving along Interstate 77 in Tuscarawas County saw a Chevrolet Suburban SUV that was reported as causing a hit-and-run accident in Austintown a few hours earlier. Troopers note that they pursued the SUV into Coshocton County where it crashed when it was heading around a curve on Route 751.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital where he is currently being treated. His condition is unknown at this time.
The man was wanted when a Mahoning County Sheriff Deputy tried to pull him over in Austintown earlier this week. That is when law enforcement indicates that the man’s SIV hit a trans collector while trying to pass a garbage truck on Allendale Avenue close to Kirk Road. The SUV fled the scene, so law enforcement was advised to be on the lookout for a silver 2019 Chevrolet Suburban with damage to its front end. The vehicle was also missing a side-view mirror on the passenger side and had Alabama license plates.
The victim of the hit-and-run is a 56-year-old man from Struthers, Ohio, who is reported as being in critical condition.
