Alleged Drunk Driving Accident Tragically Kills Family of Three in Long Beach, California

November 06, 2019

LONG BEACH, CA. – According to a news report posted online at people.com, an alleged drunk driving accident that happened in Long Beach, California, tragically killed a family of three. The accident took place on Halloween night while the family members were out walking. People reports that the driver was arrested.*

The collision took place late in the evening, close to the intersection of Country Club Drive and Los Cerritos Park Place. The Long Beach Police Department and People report that at approximately 10 p.m., a 2002 Toyota Sequoia was traveling on the roadway approaching the intersection. Police officers say that the driver came to a curve in the roadway and failed to negotiate it properly.

It appears the driver of the Toyota then lost control of the vehicle and traveled up over the curb. The Toyota then went onto the sidewalk, where it struck three people who were walking there. It is not completely clear what caused the accident, though authorities developed reason to believe alcohol was a factor. The circumstances of the collision have not been fully reported.

People reports that the three pedestrians were transported to local hospitals, where one tragically died shortly after arrival. People reports that the other two pedestrians also tragically died from their injuries two days after the accident. The victims were identified as family members, including a 30-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman, and their three-year-old son.

Officials identified the driver of the Toyota as a 20-year-old man. People reports that after performing a DUI investigation at the scene, officers placed the driver under arrest and booked him into jail on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. He was released from the Long Beach County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to People. It is unclear when he will appear next in court.
