Police Searching for Suspect in Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in Peach County, Georgia

November 05, 2019

PEACH COUNTY, GA. – According to a news report published online at 13wmaz.com, police officers in Peach County, Georgia, are searching for a suspect involved in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash. They are asking for anyone with information about the accident or a suspect to contact them as soon as possible.*

The collision happened during the morning on a weekend day in Byron, Peach County, Georgia. The Byron Police Department and 13 WMAZ report that around 1 p.m., authorities were dispatched to the area of mile marker 148 on the northbound side of Interstate 75 on a call about a pedestrian accident. They went to the area between the 247 Connector and State Road 49 on the interstate.

When they arrived, investigators found that a person had apparently been struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was no longer present at the scene. Officers believe that the car was traveling northbound, but they did not provide a description of the car. The accident appeared to have happened about three to seven hours prior to when authorities came to the scene, the report says.

It is not clear if the pedestrian was walking in the roadway, was on the side of the road, or was trying to cross the interstate. It is not known at this time how the accident happened.

13 WMAZ reports that the pedestrian tragically died from his injuries at the scene. He has been identified by officials as a 42-year-old mam from Warner Robins, Georgia.

No information about a potential suspect has been released, and as of the time of the 13 WMAZ report’s posting, no arrests had been made. The Byron Police Department is asking for information from any witnesses to the accident or anyone who might know where to find the driver. The department can be reached at (478) 956-2493.
