November 05, 2019

CANTON, GA. – According to a news report posted online at tribuneledgernews.com, a woman was tragically killed in a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 575 in Canton, Georgia, it is not yet clear what caused the accident, though weather conditions might have played a role.*

The accident happened on a section of I-575 referred to as the “S curve,” which sits between Exit 16 and Exit 19. Georgia State Patrol and the Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News report that around 6 a.m., a 2004 Jeep Liberty was traveling northbound on the interstate and somehow left the roadway near Exit 16. After departing from the road, the Jeep crashed into a tree.

It is not clear at this time what circumstances caused the Jeep to run off the road. Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jacob Tow stated that the weather at the time of the accident was heavy rain, and the driver would have had difficulty regaining control of the vehicle after leaving the lane of travel. However, no information about the cause of the collision has been confirmed by investigators at this time.

The Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News reports that the driver of the Jeep was tragically killed in the crash. She was identified as a 27-year-old woman from Ball Ground, Georgia. The report indicates that she was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The Canton Police Department and Cherokee County Fire and EMS responded to the scene in addition to Georgia State Patrol. Crews shut down the northbound side of the interstate for several hours for on-scene investigation. The roadway was reopened about three hours after the accident.

State Troopers are handling the crash investigation. At the time the report from the Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News was posted online, further details about the collision were not available.
