Pedestrian Tragically Killed on U.S. Highway 27/441 in Leesburg, Florida

LEESBURG, FL- writes that a pedestrian died over the weekend in a late-night crash on a busy roadway in Leesburg. Reports indicate that the victim was struck by a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup truck while attempting to cross U.S. Highway 27/441 near Picciola Road when the truck hit him.*

The emergency responders were called to the scene of the accident and found the victim, a 56-year-old man, in the roadway. Emergency medical personnel performed CPR on the victim before taking him to the Leesburg Medical Center. The man later died from the injuries he suffered in the accident. 

The driver who struck the pedestrian was identified as a 28-year-old man from Leesburg. He remained at the scene of the accident. Police have not stated what if any charges are pending against the driver but indicated that he could be facing charges after the completion of the investigation. 

Traffic was impacted by the incident for around three hours while responders closed U.S. Highway 27/441 to investigate and clear the scene. 

Police are still looking for any witnesses to the accident and asking that anyone who has information come forward.
