Man Fatally Struck by SunRail Train Near Dakin Avenue in Kissimmee, Florida

KISSIMMEE, FL. – According to an online news story reported by, a man was fatally struck by a SunRail train near Dakin Avenue in Kissimmee, Florida. Police officers are still trying to understand what led to the accident and have released little information about their investigation, though the victim has been identified.*

The accident occurred early in the morning at the train tracks near Dakin Avenue, shortly beyond the Kissimmee SunRail station. The Kissimmee Police Department and ClickOrlando report that shortly before 6:30 a.m., a SunRail train was departing from the station and somehow ran into a pedestrian. The report says that the crossing signals and lights were activated close to where the pedestrian was walking, and the victim was standing on the tracks at the time that the train hit him.

It is unclear why the pedestrian was crossing the train tracks, and the report did not say if the train operator saw the pedestrian prior to the collision. Authorities and officials are working to determine what events contributed to the crash and whether any safety procedures were violated in connection with the accident. The investigation is underway. 

ClickOrlando reports that the pedestrian was tragically killed in the crash. He has been identified as a 25-year-old man. His hometown was not provided in the report. 

It is not clear how many passengers were on the train at the time of the accident. No other injuries were reported in the news story. No one else involved in the accident, including the train operator, was identified. 

The collision caused all southbound and northbound SunRail trains running through Kissimmee to shut down. Vehicle traffic around the train crossing was also blocked, but the area reopened around 10 a.m. that day. No statement from SunRail was included in the report.
