Fatal Chain-Reaction Vehicle Crash Reported on Westover Blvd. in Albany, Georgia
ALBANY, GA. – According to a news story reported online at walb.com, a fatal chain-reaction vehicle wreck occurred on Westover Boulevard in Albany, Georgia. One person was tragically killed in the crash, according to WALB, and police officers say that charges are pending against one of the drivers.*
The accident happened in the late afternoon at the crossing of Westover Boulevard with Meredyth Drive. The Albany Police Department and WALB report that around 3:30 p.m., a vehicle was traveling south on Westover, approaching the intersection. At Meredyth Drive, the vehicle driver reportedly failed to stop and ended up crashing into the back of another vehicle. It is unclear if traffic was stopped for a light or if it was stopped for another reason.
The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to rear-end a third vehicle, after which the third vehicle was forced into the back of a fourth vehicle. The makes and models of these vehicles were not reported. Authorities did not say what caused the driver of the first vehicle to continue forward with traffic stopped ahead.
WALB reports that a passenger who had been riding in the second vehicle was tragically killed in the collision. This person was identified by the Clayton County Coroner’s Office as a 72-year-old man. He had reportedly been traveling from Florida with the driver of that vehicle, who is from Albany.
It is not clear if anyone else was injured in the accident. The driver of the first vehicle was the only other person from the crash who was identified by officials. This driver is reportedly a 61-year-old woman. Officers say that charges are currently pending against her, though they have not announced what those charges might include. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
