Driver Facing Charges for Causing Multi-Vehicle Accident Resulting in the Tragic Death of One
CARROLL COUNTY, VA – According to an online news report at wdbj7.com, a man tragically died in a four-vehicle accident in Carroll County late last week. One death has been reported.*
Per the Virginia State Police, the accident happened on Interstate 77 at the mile marker three when traffic was at a standstill. As a result, an 18-wheeler was unable to stop in time to avoid a crash. The 18-wheeler attempted to switch lanes to avoid slamming into other vehicles and in the process, crashed into a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT and a 2007 Pontiac G5.
The driver of the Pontiac, a 74-year-old man from Galax, Virginia, died at the scene of the accident. He was not properly restrained by a seatbelt at the time of the crash. His passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was driven by a 48-year-old man from Charlotte, North Carolina. He did not reportedly sustain injuries, but he is facing a charge of reckless driving. An investigation of the accident is ongoing. There are no further details on the crash at this time.
