Pedestrian Tragically Dies in Accident on I-285 in Cobb County, Georgia

COBB COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story published at cbs46.com, a pedestrian tragically died in an accident that happened on Interstate 285 in Cobb County, Georgia. Authorities have released little information at this time regarding the events of the accident, and they have not identified the victim.*

The collision occurred during the overnight hours, close to the Highway 41/Cobb Parkway interchange on the southbound side of I-285. The Cobb County Police Department and CBS 46 report that a pedestrian was in the area and was somehow struck by a passing vehicle. 

Authorities did not immediately know why the pedestrian was on the interstate. The report did not say where the pedestrian was walking or in what direction he or she was walking at the time of the accident. It is unclear if the victim was walking inside of a southbound lane of travel, was on the side of the interstate, or was trying to cross the interstate. 

The make and model of the vehicle involved in the accident were not reported. No descriptive information about the vehicle was reported, either. Authorities did not immediately say how the accident happened or what circumstances might have contributed to the crash. 

CBS 46 reports that the pedestrian tragically died in the accident. The news report contained no identifying information about him or her. 

The driver of the vehicle was also not identified in the report. It is not clear if the driver was alone in the vehicle or if anyone in the vehicle was injured. 

All of the southbound lanes on I-285 were shut down following the accident, and traffic was diverted onto Interstate 75. The Cobb County Police Department is investigating the accident, and they have not yet released additional information. Officers have not said whether charges might be filed in the case.
