Fatal Pedestrian Accident Occurs on Hwy 27 Bypass in Polk County, Georgia
POLK COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported at mdjonline.com, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred on the Highway 27 bypass in Polk County, Georgia. Georgia State Patrol is working to investigate the case, and officials have released identifying information on the victim of the accident.*
The collision took place in the early morning hours on the Highway 27 bypass, close to Cedartown High School. Georgia State Patrol and the Marietta Daily Journal report that shortly before 5 a.m., a pedestrian was walking along the highway and was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was described as a 2010 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. It appears the truck was traveling south at the time of the accident.
Troopers indicated that the pedestrian had been walking in the right lane of southbound Highway 27 when the collision took place. It is not clear what direction the pedestrian was walking or whether he was attempting to cross the highway. The report did not say why the pedestrian was on the highway. The factors leading to the accident were not reported by investigating authorities.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the pedestrian tragically died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The Polk County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and identified the victim as a 45-year-old man from Cedartown, Georgia.
