Rear-End Accident on I-16 in Laurens County, Georgia, Causes One Fatality, Numerous Injuries

October 18, 2019

LAURENS COUNTY, GA. – According to a news report posted online by 13wmaz.com, a rear-end collision that occurred on Interstate 16 in Laurens County, Georgia, caused one fatality and numerous injuries. The report says that a woman was tragically killed in the accident, while five people were injured.*

The accident happened in the morning on the eastbound side of I-16. Georgia State Patrol and 13 WMAZ report that shortly before 8 a.m., a 2016 Dodge Dart was headed east on the interstate, when the driver suddenly slowed down due to poor visibility from the glare of the sunlight. Troopers say that a 2005 Ford F-250 that was traveling behind the Dodge did not have time to slow down in response and ended up crashing into the back of the Dodge.

It is not clear where on the interstate the wreck happened. No mile marker or exit name was listed in the news report. The official cause of the accident has not been determined at this time.

13 WMAZ states that the 48-year-old driver of the Dodge and three passengers in the Dodge, ages 49, 64, and 14, were injured and taken to local hospitals. Two of them were transported to Navicent, where their conditions are not known. The other two were taken to Fairview Park Hospital, where one of them tragically died. This person was identified as a 49-year-old woman.

The 50-year-old male driver of the Ford and one passenger in the Ford were also injured and taken to Navicent. Their current conditions are not known.

The accident resulted in a closure of I-16 East for an unspecified period of time. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team with Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash. Troopers have not yet released additional information and say that charges are pending the outcome of their investigation.
