Logs Fall Off Truck, Pierce Windshield of SUV on Cleveland Hwy in Whitfield County, Georgia
WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news story reported by macon.com, a load of logs fell off the back of a truck and pierced the windshield of an SUV on Cleveland Highway in Whitfield County, Georgia. Authorities said that the driver of the SUV, who was not identified, had to be extricated from the vehicle.*
The accident happened in Cohutta, Georgia, which is close to the Tennessee border. The Telegraph reports that a Nissan Xterra was traveling on the highway behind a logging truck that had a full load of logs on the back. Somehow, a portion of the logs became loose and fell off the truck. The logs then struck the Nissan and crashed through the vehicle’s windshield.
It is not clear what caused the logs to fall. The report does not say if they were improperly secured if or something else happened on the roadway that resulted in the logs becoming loose. Photos posted to social media by the Whitfield County Fire Department show that the logs completely smashed out the Nissan’s windshield and traveled all the way into the vehicle, coming to a stop at the rear of the SUV.
The Telegraph reports that the driver of the Nissan was injured in the accident and had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters. It is not clear where the driver was transported or how seriously the person was injured. The driver was not identified in the news report. It appears he or she was alone in the Nissan at the time of the accident.
The news report also does not identify the driver of the log truck. The company affiliated with the truck was not named in the report, either. Authorities are still investigating the crash, and they have not yet said whether charges are anticipated.
