Tragic Crash Causes Loss of Unborn Baby in Jones County, Mississippi
JONES COUNTY, MS- Myfox8.com writes that a teacher tragically lost her unborn baby just 30 minutes after leaving her baby shower. The woman was 36 weeks pregnant when a vehicle struck her car and then fled the scene.*
The victim’s mother was driving several cars behind the 24-year-old fourth-grade teacher and saw traffic slow down. She asked what had occurred and was told that a pregnant woman had been involved in a wreck. When she ran to find her daughter, she located the young woman in front of her vehicle. The driver’s side door of the car was torn off.
Responders transported the victim to the South Central Regional Medical Center, where the infant died less than an hour later. The woman suffered severe injuries to her abdomen and legs, and doctors said they had to revive her once while performing surgery. It seemed unlikely that the victim would pull through.
Earlier this week, doctors were able to take the woman off life support. Her family says that she kept asking about the baby, but that her mother was afraid to tell her what had happened because it could have worsened her condition.
Police were able to apprehend the driver, identified as a 35-year-old man, later in the day. The man is now facing charges for fleeing the scene of a crash.
The family started a GoFundMe page to help the victim with medical expenses and with lost time at work while she recovers from the traumatic injuries. The woman’s father said that his daughter is strong and that as she gets better, the family will too.
