Plane Crash in Fletcher, North Carolina Injures Five

January 05, 2020

FLETCHER, NC- Wjhl.com writes that a plane crashed over the weekend in North Carolina. The FAA says that the aircraft took off at the Asheville Regional Airport. There were five individuals on the aircraft at the time, and all survived but sustained injuries.*

The cause of the crash is still unclear.

Commercial flights are known as the safest form of travel. The popular saying is that a person is more likely to die on their way to the airport than on a plane. While that is true for large commercial flights, it is not the case when it comes to small private planes. The majority of these flights are blamed on lost pilot control. In many cases, pilots on small planes reportedly fail to see some terrain, including a body of water, the ground, or some other obstacle until its too late to avoid. Private planes have a higher risk of crashing in bad weather, and of running out of fuel. Wild-life-related incidents also occur, typically involving birds such as geese and vultures. These accidents rarely lead to fatalities but can cause irreparable damage to a plane.

While many small plane crashes are blamed on the pilots, (who undergo less rigorous training than commercial aviators), a report conducted by USA Today indicates that much of the fault may be misplaced. Some of the crashes believed to be the result of pilot error were likely caused by defects in the aircraft themselves. According to the report, manufacturers failed to disclose information regarding known mechanical problems in the planes. The story goes as far as to state that the manufacturers lied to federal regulators to cover up problems with planes.
