Police to Step Up Enforcement Patrols In Bradenton, Florida (FL)

October 19, 2020

BRADENTON, FL —Officers from the Bradenton Police Department will be out in full force monitoring traffic as part of a High Visibility Enforcement program. Protecting the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists alike is the primary function of the program. Bradenton PD will run the program in cooperation with the Florida Department of Transportation, the University of North Florida, and the Institute of Police Technology and Management.

The police will use the program to promote the safety of bicycle riders and pedestrians. The police officers on overtime, funded by a grant, will post themselves at busy intersections and other locations where city data shows accidents are prevalent. The officers will conduct motor vehicle stops to enforce the traffic laws and educate people about vehicular safety.

Bradenton PD expects to reduce the number of collisions at high volume and dangerous locations. By giving out citations or talking with motorists about the importance of obeying the state's traffic laws, Bradenton PD expects that people will take driving safely more seriously.

Bradenton Police chose several locations for saturation patrols due to pedestrian traffic and the number of accidents involving bicycles and pedestrians. Motorists can expect to see high visibility patrols at several locations throughout the city. The spots on U.S. 301 include Waterfront Drive through 17th Avenue W. to 8th Avenue W.  Police are also expected to set up on 14th St. W to 12th St. W.

Authorities in Bradenton stopped 9,030 vehicles in 2020. Out of the 9,030 vehicular stops, 1,989 involved criminal sanctions such as DUI, fleeing, racing, and reckless driving. Officials issued citations for 5,310 moving violations and 1,731 non-moving violations.  Moving violations include 438 violations for failure to stop or yield the right-of-way and 204 citations for following too closely. Police cited 292 individuals for a seatbelt violation and 67 bicycle riders and pedestrians for violations as well.
