Distracted Driving Caused Over 48,000 Car Accidents in 2020 in the State of Florida

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is trying to end distracted driving.  In a preliminary accident report for 2020, the state of Florida had over 48,000 distracted driving accidents, and 75% of those crashes were caused by a distracted driver.  Distracted driving tragically killed about 300 people and caused about 2,700 serious injuries.  In 2020, there were over 900 distracted driving accidents on average every week throughout Florida.

Florida Reduces the Number of Impaired-driving Fatalities in 2020

FLORIDA - Florida reduced the number of impaired-driving fatalities in 2020.  In 2020, there were approximately 745 fatal accidents caused by drivers intoxicated by drugs, alcohol, or a combination in Florida.  This was a decrease of around 33% of fatalities from 2019.  The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is pleased to see a significant decrease in the number of impaired-driving deaths in 2020, but the agency is rolling out a new impaired-driving prevention and education campaigns in 2021.
