Two People Severely Injured in a Fiery Car Accident on I-95 in Jacksonville, Florida

January 12, 2022

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - A news story published on News4Jax.com reports that two people riding in a tanker truck were severely injured in a fiery truck accident.*

The truck crash closed down several traffic lanes along Interstate 95 by Union Street for several hours. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department assisted the Florida Highway Patrol with the accident.

According to the news report and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) website, the accident was reported at around 1:15 in the afternoon. The crash involved a car and the tank truck. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department reported that a fire started following the collision.

FHP reported that the accident was caused by an improper lane change by the sedan. The FHP accident report states that two 16-year-old girls were riding the car that hit the tanker truck.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Eric Prosswimmer stated that the fire and rescue crew saw smoke, and they called for more assistance. They also called in the hazardous materials unit since they did not know what the tanker truck was carrying.

The two people inside the tanker truck were pulled from the wreckage and were transferred to the UF Health Shands Hospital Burn Unit in Gainesville, Florida.

The two people riding in the car were taken to a local area hospital. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department stated that it was a miracle that they survived the accident. The JFRD reported that there were some good samaritans who assisted the victims after the collision.
