The family was traveling in an SUV along I-75 when they crashed with a tractor-trailer truck, stated Florida Highway Patrol.
One of the accident victims was a former member of the Millburn Board of Education along with the victim's spouse and teenage son.
According to law enforcement and a traffic investigator's accident report, the fatal accident occurred at around 10 PM in the southbound traffic lanes of I-75 in Pasco County. The traffic accident report states that the three family members were riding in their SUV on an inner traffic lane when the 18-wheeler truck attempted to change lanes and struck the family's SUV. The crash happened near mile marker 283.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, all three accident victims were wearing seat belts and tragically died at the accident scene.
The school superintendent stated that grief counselors would assist staff and students at all Millburn schools on Monday. The district reported that it would announce the memorial service when the information becomes available.
