Tragic, Fatal Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Two Children and Injures Four People

January 05, 2022

FLORIDA - According to an online news article published on insideedition.com, a 27-year-old man from Florida was arrested in connection to a tragic, fatal hit-and-run collision that injured four children and killed two other small children.* All of the pedestrian crash victims were under the age of eleven.

The alleged driver was arrested and appeared in court on Wednesday. The 27-year-old suspect was not given bond due to two probation violations. According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office's arrest report, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the fatal collision with the children. The suspect is facing two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, tampering with evidence, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries, driving with a suspended license that caused a death or serious injury, probation violation, and four counts of driving without a license causing death and/or serious bodily injuries.

Two children are currently in critical medical condition, another is in fair medical condition, and one child has been released.

The fatal collision occurred last Monday at around 2:45 PM in Wilton Manors, outside Fort Lauderdale. The Broward Sheriff Office, Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the Wilton Manors Police Department, and Fire Rescue crews responded to a hit-and-run collision.

The preliminary accident investigation showed that a Honda Accord sedan, driven by the suspect, was heading southbound on Northwest Ninth Avenue near the 2500 block. A Broward County Transit bus was dropping off a passenger at that moment. When the bus pulled out into traffic, the Honda veered right, drove onto the sidewalk, and struck the six children.

After the collision, the Honda fled the area. Once the Honda was located, it had damage consistent with a pedestrian crash. Bystanders at the crash scene ran over to assist the victims until the first responders arrived. The crash is currently under investigation.
