13-year-old Orlando Boy Tragically Struck and Killed While Riding His Bike in Orange County, Florida

ORANGE COUNTY, FLORIDA - According to an online news report published on clickorlando.com, a 13-year-old boy from Orlando was tragically hit and killed by a vehicle while he was riding his bike last Wednesday night.*

The collision occurred in an Orange County neighborhood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.  The report states that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the crash. 

The fatal hit-and-run collision was called in at around 7:45 PM.  The exact location of the crash was Montello Drive at Tree Ridge Lane in the Arbor Ridge West neighborhood. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the boy was riding his bicycle eastbound along Montello Drive when he was struck by a 2021 Toyota Tacoma that was heading westbound.  The Toyota pickup truck driver then ran over the boy, and fled the scene, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.

The boy was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where the boy was tragically pronounced dead.  A neighbor stated that drivers speeding in the neighborhood were a common problem.

Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies found the pickup truck about a mile from the accident scene, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers questioned the owner of the truck.  It is not known if a suspect has been arrested.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Kim Montes, "For this family to have to lose their child, their 13-year-old son, right before Christmas, will forever change their lives."  

Florida Highway Patrol stated that fatal hit-and-run collisions have increased throughout Orange County over the past three years.  The fatal crash is currently under investigation.  No further details about the crash were released. 

An investigation in connection to Wednesday's hit-and-run is ongoing.
