Two Injured in a Severe Motor Vehicle Accident in St. Johns County, Florida
FLORIDA - According to an online news report posted on News4Jax.com, I-95 reopened following a severe accident involving a boat-towing pickup and a fully loaded septic tanker truck.*
A Florida Department of Transportation traffic camera identified a motor vehicle accident that occurred along a portion of Interstate 95 North in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident occurred around noon and close by the State Road 16 exit.
The report states that the accident cleanup took around three and a half hours and traffic was directed around the accident along the left paved shoulder. All northbound lanes were reopened around 4:45 PM. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the septic truck was traveling along I-95 in the right traffic lane when the tanker left the roadway. Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that the tanker truck driver accidentally overcorrected and then struck a pickup truck towing a boat.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that the boat separated from the trailer, while the tanker truck driver lost control and overturned the truck. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the boat and the pickup truck's trailer came to a stop upon the right shoulder of the interstate.
A passenger riding in the tanker truck, a 52-year-old man from Jacksonville, was severely injured, and the tanker truck driver, a 30-year-old man from Jacksonville, sustained accident injuries. A Florida Highway Patrol press release stated that it's not known if the 52-year-old was wearing his seat belt.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that the pickup truck driver, a 58-year-old man from St. Augustine, and the pickup truck's passenger, a 54-year-old woman from St. Augustine, were allegedly not injured. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident.
