Three Motorcyclists Tragically Killed on I-595 in Broward County, Florida

According to a news report published on sun-sentinel.com, three motorcyclists were tragically killed in a multi-vehicle accident.*  The fatal motorcycle accident involved a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was off-duty at the time of the accident.  Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies answered the call concerning the motorcycle accident at around 10 in the evening.  The crash occurred on Interstate 595 Westbound, about a half-mile east of Interstate 95, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.

All of the motor vehicles were heading westbound when a Suzuki motorcycle and a Yamaha motorcycle crashed into each other.  All three people involved in the collision were thrown off of their motorcycles.  One of the victims was a passenger.  Tragically, a white Lexus IS ran over the Suzuki motorbike.  Two motorcyclists were struck by the off-duty deputy who was in his private vehicle, a silver Dodge Durango.

According to the report, the motor vehicles were cruising at around 65 MPH although the visibility was limited, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.  The Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy driving home after working at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

All three motorcyclists were declared deceased at the accident scene.

Investigators shut down the area to traffic for over two hours, while they investigated the accident.  

A petroleum truck driver from Coral Springs witnessed the aftermath as he was traveling westbound on I-595 across from the airport.  He stated that some vehicles were attempting to drive around the accident debris because the motorists did not see the bodies lying in the middle of the highway.

No other accident-related injuries were reported.  The fatal accident is currently under investigation.  No criminal charges were reported at this time.
