According to a new auto accident report published by the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, more than 460 accidents in 2020 were associated with "improper backing."  These types of accidents accounted for about 2.6% of the total amount of motor vehicle accidents in the state. Distracted driving caused approximately 745 car accidents.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A news story published on wbrc.com reports that a man tragically passed away over the weekend.  The victim was taking part in a racing event that was being held at Barber Motorsports Park.*

BRYAN COUNTY, GA - A news report published on wsav.com states that a three-car collision tragically killed two people and severely injured one more person in Bryan County, Georgia.*  The fatal accident occurred early Saturday morning.

UNION CITY, GA - In a news report published on 11alive.com, a serious accident blocked Interstate 85 southbound by Flat Shoals Road in Union City, Georiga.*  According to the news story, drivers in the area were redirected to Highway 29 into Union City or Fairburn.  The collision happened on Tuesday morning.

GEORGIA - A news article posted on ThePostSearchlight.com states that a Georgia State Patrol trooper recently spoke out about the rise in Georgia DUI statistics and Georgia State Patrol's 100 days of Summer Seatbelt Enforcement and Georgia's DUI Zero Tolerance programs.

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - Hyundai's Kona full-electric crossover owners are complaining that Hyundai is botching a major recall.  The complaints include poor communication and repair delays.  Hyundai said that it would replace the defective battery systems in about 82,000 Hyundai's Kona electric vehicles (EV) after reports of Kona electric vehicles catching fire. 

ATHENS, GA - A news story published on 11alive.com reports that a 21-year-old University of Georgia student was tragically killed in a hit-and-run collision that happened on Sunday in Athens, Georgia.* The fatal collision happened around the area of the GA Outer 10 Loop by Chase Street.  

ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA - A news story published on 11alive.com reports that a 10-year-old boy, who was riding a bicycle on Monday evening, was tragically struck and killed by a hit-and-run collision with a motor vehicle.*  According to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, the collision happened at the intersection of Cherry Hill Lane and Ebenezer Road.  The fatal collision occurred at about 8:30 PM, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office reported. 

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA - A news story published on 11alive.com reports that law enforcement officers are currently investigating a tragic, fatal accident involving a MARTA bus and a pedestrian last Monday night.*

PHENIX CITY, AL - A news story published on wtvm.com reports that a police chase ended in a fatal collision in Phenix City, Alabama.*  The result of the fatal collision led to one person tragically being killed and the suspect charged with murder.

PEACHTREE CITY, GA - A news story posted on fox5atlanta.com reports that law enforcement officers have identified two teenagers who were tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident last Saturday evening in Peachtree City, Georgia.*  The driver of the motor vehicle was identified as a 19-year-old man and the passenger as a 16-year-old boy.  

HALL COUNTY, GA - A news report published on cbs46.com states that a severe multi-vehicle accident closed down part of Candler Road in Hall County, Georgia.*

MARIETTA, GA - A news report published on patch.com states that two Douglasville citizens were involved in a motor vehicle accident in Cobb County, Georgia.*  The fatal crash occurred at around midnight on Monday.  According to the Cobb County Police, a 26-year-old woman was driving her black Toyota Corolla westbound along Pat Mell Road by Lorene Drive.  The woman had an 18-year-old female passenger in the car with her.

VIDALIA, GA - A news story published on fox28media.com states that a Vidalia High School freshman was tragically killed in an accident  Saturday night in Vidalia, Georgia.*

A news article published on FREIGHTWAVES.COM reports that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released a new study that has found large trucks equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Forward Collision Warning systems could reduce 40% of all rear-end accidents.

WASHINGTON, DC - A news report states that a new Bosch accident research study discovered that Lateral Actuator Systems in Class 7 and 8 trucks could reduce truck accident costs. The Bosch analysis finds by equipping commercial trucks with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to keep commercial trucks in their traffic lane, the overall costs of truck accidents go down. The technology can save lives and could also improve profits for trucking companies.

AUGUSTA, GA - An Army veteran is raising awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by walking across the United States.  The army veteran began his walk in February of 2020 following the death of his grandfather.  When Stephen Meyers walks into a state, he meets with various organizations to teach about healthier ways of coping with traumatic experiences.  

LAKE PARK, GA - A news report published on walb.com states that three people, including a pregnant woman, were tragically killed in an accident on I-75 South in Lowndes County, Georgia.*  According to Georgia State Patrol, the fatal accident occurred on Thursday at around 7 in the morning. 

MACON, GA - A news report published on 13wmaz.com states that a late-night motor vehicle accident occurred on Broadway Street in Macon, Georgia.*  According to a Bibb County Sheriff's Office media release, a motorcyclist tragically lost his life, and two other people were severely injured in the Macon accident.  The collision happened at about 12:30 AM along Broadway Street, close to Greter Street.

BLOOMINGDALE, GA - A news report on fox28media.com states that a serious motor vehicle accident in Bloomingdale, Georgia, severely injured two people.*  According to Georgia State Patrol, the accident also involved a law enforcement officer.

PEACHTREE CITY, GA - A news report posted on newsbreak.com states that a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old were tragically killed in a car accident last Saturday evening.*

USA - A news article on FORBES.COM states that Tesla and the Autopilot feature are the subject of approximately 23 active safety investigations by the federal government.  According to the news report, many of the collisions occurred when the Autopilot feature was turned on.

VIDALIA, GA - A news report posted on wtoc.com states that an accident tragically took the life of a 15-year-old boy.*  According to Georgia State Patrol, the agency's troopers arrived at an accident along Rigsbee Drive in Vidalia, Georgia, just before 8:30 on Saturday night.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has sent a team of investigators to investigate the horrific Tesla underride accident last occurred week. The accident happened at around 3:20 AM on March 11, 2021, in southwest Detroit, Michigan.

A group of rideshare drivers has sent rideshare companies a list of demands to improve safety.  The demands include passenger verification, mandatory profile photos, and voice-activated panic buttons.  The list of safety demands is in response to a recent kidnapping and sexual assault of a Chicago Uber driver.   

WASHINGTON, DC -  Underride accidents are collisions in which a motor vehicle slides underneath a large truck. A proposed bill would require underride guards on certain trucks and trailers, which would bring relief to those who have tragically lost loved ones in underride accidents.  However, some trucking groups that are opposing the bill claim the underride guards are a safety hazard for truck drivers and the trucking industry.

BULLOCH COUNTY, GA - A news report published on statesboroherald.com states that a Statesboro Police Department Captain has sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident.*

LIBERTY COUNTY, GA - An accident news report on wtoc.com states that law enforcement officers responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 119, north of Highway 144 in Liberty County, Georgia.*

WILKINSON COUNTY, GA - A news report published on 13wmaz.com states that a Wilkinson County woman killed in wreck at Highway 57, Fall Line Freeway intersection in Wilkinson County, Georgia.*

VALDOSTA, GA - A news report posted on valdostadailytimes.com states that a tragic, fatal accident in Lowndes County, Georgia, killed a Berrien teenager last week.*

The past 20-years have experienced a steady decline in the number of injury rates in the United States. However, the number of serious injuries and fatalities has not decreased. New information and statistics provided by the ISN's Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Insights report show the safety difficulties still challenging companies in various industries. The ISN also noted that the transportation and warehousing industries have taken the lead in Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) rates spanning from 2017 to 2019. 

DETROIT, MI - USATODAY.COM reports that the stay-at-home orders and the pandemic kept motorists off U.S. roadways for most of last year.  In a report issued Thursday, the National Safety Council stated that 42,060 were tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in 2020.  This was an 8% increase in the number of fatal accidents over 2019 and was the first significant increase in four years.  The report also showed that the fatality rate per 100 million miles driven increased by 24% in 2020.  This was the most significant annual percentage increase since the National Safety Council began accumulating accident data in 1923.

WASHINGTON – According to a news report published on OANN.COM, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the agency is investigating a serious motor vehicle accident in Detroit, Michigan, that involved a Tesla.  The violent Tesla accident happened on March 11, 2021, involving a Tesla and an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck.  The accident left a passenger in the Tesla in critical medical condition after the Tesla was wedged under the tractor-trailer truck.

SENOIA, GA - A news report posted on 11alive.com states that the Georgia State Patrol is investigating a fatal accident in Coweta County, Georgia.*

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Six bikers have been tragically killed in motorcycle accidents during Daytona's 80th Bike Week.  Several other bikers sustained severe injuries and were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center.  Daytona's 80th Bike Week began on March 5, 2021, and lasted until March 14, 2021. 

WASHINGTON, DC - According to an online news article published on OANN.COM, a new U.S. study has discovered that Adaptive Cruise Control Systems in vehicles actually raise the risk of getting into a traffic accident.  The study shows that drivers often drive faster using the technology.  Adaptive Cruise Control Systems control the speed and braking of a motor vehicle automatically. 

UNITED STATES - Lyft Inc. and Uber Technologies Inc. have agreed to share information on banned drivers and delivery workers to boost customer safety. In the past, if a driver or delivery worker was banned from one platform, the banned driver could simply work for the competing platform putting customers in harm's way in many situations.  The companies stated that the information shared regarding the banned drivers would include incidents involving physical assaults and sexual assaults.  The two industry-leading companies hope the data sharing will spread throughout the delivery and transportation industry.

ATLANTA, GA - A news story published on 1alive.com reports that the Georgia Department of Transportation announced a major accident with severe injuries had occurred along the southbound lanes of Interstate 75, just past the Canton Road Exit.*  Motorists were being warned to take alternate routes after a serious crash left traffic backed in Cobb County, Georgia.

MARIETTA, GA - According to an online news report published on fox5atlanta.com, the Marietta Police Department stated that an individual from Acworth is being treated for life-threatening accident injuries at WellStar Kennestone Hospital following an Interstate 75 accident in Marietta, Georgia.*

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA - According to an online news report on 11alive.com, the Gwinnett County Police arrested a man following a deadly hit-and-run crash south of Snellville, Georgia.*  The 22-year-old suspect was charged in the accidental death of a 59-year-old man along Lee Road, between Mink Livsey Road and Lenora Church Road.

According to a Cbs46.com news report, the Sandy Springs Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that took the life of a motorcyclist.*

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA - The  Effingham County Sheriff's Office is launching a new anti-drunk driving initiative.  The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is uniting forces with Southern Eagle Distributing with the hopes of decreasing the number of alcohol-related accidents in Effingham County, Georgia. 

NORTH CAROLINA - A high number of distracted driving accidents in North Carolina costs consumers in North Carolina higher insurance premium rates. According to the news report, the North Carolina General Assembly has made passing a "hands-free driving law" an uppermost priority in 2021. 

AUBURNDALE, FL - A news report on dailyridge.com states that on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at around 6:50 pm, law enforcement officers with the Auburndale Police Department were called out to a traffic accident with injuries.*

TAMPA, FL - A news story published on abcactionnews.com states that a pedestrian was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle on North Ashley Drive at East Whiting Street in Tampa, Florida.*

JACKSON COUNTY, FL - A news report published on wtxl.com states that a Grand Ridge man was severely injured following a tractor accident on Spivey Road in Jackson County, Florida.*

According to Georgia State Patrol, the number of local, fatal traffic accidents rose during the month of February in the state of Georgia.  Although there was a substantial decrease in the number of traffic injuries in January 2021, Georgia State Patrol Troopers from Post 24 in Newnan announced there were more fatal accidents in February than in January. 

USA - Hot tub home insurance claims tripled in 2020 as people spent more time at home due to the coronavirus quarantines, according to an insurance report. A report from the UK's Aviva stated that there were about 188% more insurance claims involving hot tubs in 2020 than in 2019. The claims were mostly property-type claims. However, as more people invest in "staycation" items such as hot tubs, trampolines, outdoor kitchens, swimming pools, and others, the number of accident and injury claims may continue to climb.

The Ford Motor Company has issued two major safety recalls throughout North America.  The first recall will replace driver-side Takata airbags on over 2.6 million Ford SUVs, trucks, and cars in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada, and Mexico.

ATLANTA, GA - A survey shows that one section of metro Atlanta is one of the most dangerous areas for pedestrians.  According to a list of the most dangerous places for pedestrians in the United States published by Smart Growth America, the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Alpharetta area ranked 19th on a list.

Melton, issued an order that immediately removed the suspension of jury trials in Georgia. The Chief Justice's order, which was the twelfth order the Chief Justice has signed concerning Georgia's Statewide Judicial Emergency.

DETROIT, MI - The coronavirus stay-at-home orders and lockdowns may have kept a lot of motorists off U.S. roadways in 2020, but traffic-related fatalities rose sharply.  One of the primary reasons for the increased number of fatal traffic accidents was due to reckless driving and "super-speeding" due to the wide-open roadways. 

PENNSYLVANIA - According to a report published by the National Safety Council, the number of people tragically killed in motor vehicle accidents in Pennsylvania in 2020 grew from 1,107 to 1,116, which is a 5% increase in one year. The report states that Pennsylvania's statistics were very similar to other states in terms of an increase in vehicular deaths last year despite a drop in traffic. However, Pennsylvania's increase in traffic fatalities was not as high as most other states.  

LOS ANGELES, CA - Detectives are reviewing data from the "black box" from Tiger Woods' Genesis SUV.  The detectives believe the black box information will help officials determine the cause of the rollover crash that severely injured the golf star.

ORLANDO, FL - A news article published on clickorlando.com reports that sections of North John Young Parkway and Shader Road in Orlando, Florida, were closed down last Monday because of a serious accident involving a pickup truck.*  

SANDY SPRINGS, GA - A news report posted on ajc.com states that a driver involved in an accident stepped out of his motor vehicle along GA. 400 and was then struck and killed by another motorist.*

LONG COUNTY, GA - An accident news report posted on wtoc.com states that one person was tragically killed and another was seriously injured in an auto accident in Long County, Georgia.*

HAHIRA, GA - A news story published on valdostadailytimes.com reports that two Lake Park women were tragically killed in a car accident near Hahira, Georgia, in Lowndes County.*

TOPEKA, KS - A news report posted on wibw.com states that a woman was tragically killed in a seven-vehicle accident along I-70 in Downtown Topeka, Kansas. Her husband is Kansas State's Assistant Women's Tennis coach.*

COBB COUNTY, GA - An accident news story on fox5atlanta.com states that one person was tragically killed in a chain-reaction accident that involved approximately twenty motor vehicles.*  The accident closed down the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Cobb County, Georgia, on Thursday morning.  Also, the I-75 Express lanes were shut down between  Chastain Road and Barrett Parkway. 

According to a news report online posted on hudsonvalleypost.com, an elderly woman from Hudson Valley, New York, was tragically killed when she was involved in an accident with an 18 wheeler along route 17 K.* The fatal truck accident occurred at approximately 10:20 in the morning, according to New York State Police. 

According to an online news report, one person was tragically killed, and two others were injured in a Thursday morning accident involving a semi-tractor trailer truck along interstate I-88 in Lisle.*

According to an online news report posted on mymcmedia.org, three separate drivers were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on the I-495 Outerloop in Montgomery County, Maryland.* All three drivers were transported to a local area hospital on Friday morning following a five-vehicle accident.

SARASOTA, FL - A news story published on MySunCoast.com reports that a motorcyclist was tragically killed in an accident involving a pickup truck last Monday evening in Port Charlotte, Florida.*

U.S. - The number of people slain in commercial airplane accidents grew in 2020 to 299 worldwide even though there was a significant drop in flights due to COVID-19, according to a Dutch consulting firm's research.

MOBILE, AL - The Alabama legislature is considering a new bill that bans handheld cell phone use while driving.  Alabama lawmakers are trying to take more action against distracted driving, particularly cell phone use when driving.  Alabama's current distracted driving laws do not permit drivers to send or read text messages when driving.  The new bill, H.B. 90, would improve the current law.
