Without effective guards, a car that collides with a trailer can slide beneath the larger vehicle. The result of these so-called underriding collisions are often devastating and violent.*

GEORGIA - Ajc.com writes that pedestrian deaths in Georgia have been rising rapidly. While numbers are up throughout the nation as a whole, these crashes are increasing much faster in Georgia. Pedestrian deaths rose by three percent across the country in the first six months of 2018, but in Georgia, the numbers increased by about one third.*

FL- Southfloridareporter.com writes that truck crashes are increasing around the country, and throughout the entire world. The rate of increase is higher in the U.S., Australia, and in mainland Europe.* 

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FL- Wkrg.com writes that a drunk driver struck a police vehicle in a parking lot this week in Escambia County. The police vehicle was an Escambia County Sheriff SUV, and the Florida Highway Patrol arrived on the scene to investigate the incident. The drunk driver was operating a sedan just off of Saufley Field Road in Pensacola. The driver backed up and collided with the police car, which was responding to another call.*

BULLOCH COUNTY, GA- Wjcl.com writes that a man died in a crash in Georgia this week at the intersection of Georgia 67 and Brooklet-Denmark Road. The two cars collided in the later evening killing one person.*

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA- Cbs46.com writes that a car crash left one man dead on Interstate 675 this week. The crash involved two vehicles that collided and crashed off of the roadway. A sedan was left completely mangled by the wreck after a pickup truck with a trailer crashed on top of the smaller vehicle.*

FL- Cnsnews.com writes that a horrible crash that killed four members of the same family, including two women and two children, is now being held on a violation of his visa. The driver crashed his pickup truck into the rear of the family’s Toyota Sienna, killing a woman, the woman’s two children, and the woman’s mother. The 26-year-old man received a citation for “careless driving,” for his role in the tragedy.*

PALA MESA, CA- Sanluisobispo.com writes that three people died, and another eighteen people suffered injuries when a bus rolled over. Rainfall caused the roads to be slick at the time of the crash. Reports indicate that the bus was not equipped with seatbelts and that several of the occupants were thrown from the vehicle as it rolled down an embankment.*

COLUMBUS, GA- Wtvm.com writes that a pedestrian died in a tragic wreck this week on Interstate 185 in Columbus. The incident took place in the northbound lanes of travel in the late evening close to the Manchester Expressway.* 

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA- Gwinnettdailypost.com writes that two trucks collided on State Route 316, leading to a severe fire. One of the trucks was transporting Vidalia onions at the time while the other had a trailer carrying a bulldozer. The incident took place close to Hi Hope Road and Buford Drive. Officers were called to the scene in the late morning.*

COLUMBUS, GA- Wtvm.com writes that a late-night crash killed a pedestrian in Columbus. The incident occurred on Interstate 185 in the northbound lanes. The tragic crash happened late in the evening, and the road was clear again by the very early morning. The coroner has not yet released the name of the person who died in the accident.*

ATLANTA, GA- Ajc.com writes that a crash took place on Interstate 285 this week between a car and a truck. The tractor-trailer reportedly ran out of gas on the interstate, and a car collided with the rear of the semi.*

DEKALB COUNTY, GA- Fox5atlanta.com writes that two pedestrian crashes occurred on the same day this week, with the second incident resulting in a fatality. The crash took place in the evening close to Rockbridge Road. The victim was reportedly a woman in her mid-50s who died at the crash site.*

EVANS COUNTY, GA- Claxtonenterprise.com writes that a truck became disabled across Highway 169 this week in Evans County, Georgia. Police officers arrived on the scene to find the truck blocking traffic lanes as it had ended up perpendicular to the roadway.* 

FINNEY COUNTY, KS- Wattagnet.com writes that a man died at a Tyson beef processing plant in Kansas. The victim was identified as a 30-year-old man from Garden City. Reports indicate that police were called to the scene after a man working on the harvest assembly line was found not breathing.*

ROANE COUNTY, SC- 1057news.com writes that a collision took place this week on Interstate 4 in Roane County. The accident involved a 2010 Ford F-150 and a 2019 Nissan Kick. The motorists were both driving westbound close to mile marker 343 when the 64-year-old Maryville man driving the Ford collided with the side of the Nissan. The 58-year-old man in the Nissan suffered injuries in the collision.*

HALL COUNTY, GA- Gainesvilletimes.com writes that a woman is now facing charges for a crash that killed a motorcyclist this week in Hall County. The driver was identified as a 66-year-old woman from Illinois. Police charged the driver with vehicular homicide in the second-degree, which is classified under Georgia law as a misdemeanor.*

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL- Jacksonville.com writes that a woman died in a tragic hit-and-run crash this week in the early morning on International Golf Parkway. The victim, identified as a 71-year-old woman who lived close to the site of the crash, was reportedly walking near or on the roadway at the time of the collision.*

The incident occurred when two individuals were reportedly playing with a gun in an apartment building in the late morning. A twenty-year-old man accidentally shot the victim, killing the nineteen-year-old.*

TOPEKA, KA- Menafn.com writes that a recent school bus crash caused injuries to 27 students. The incident occurred while the bus was transporting the fifth graders on a field trip. The driver reportedly lost control of the large vehicle causing it to crash onto its side.*

HAMMOND, LA- Wafb.com writes that a driver involved in a deadly crash is now facing charges for causing the tragic wreck. The incident took place on Interstate 12 this week in the early morning. According to the police, the victim was a 77-year-old man from Michigan.*

USA - Self-driving cars are now presenting questions regarding fault in the event of a crash, according to THELIBERTARIANREPUBLIC.COM. In cars that are truly able to operate on their own, the occupants in the vehicle all become passengers. This means that there will be no driver to blame if an autonomous vehicle strikes and kills or injures another person. So, who will be at-fault if an autonomous vehicle injures someone?

USA- Marinecorpstimes.com writes that the number one mishap killer of marine officers is due to car and motorcycle accidents.  In a short amount of time, three officers tragically died in separate crashes. Two motorcycle accidents and one pedestrian incident left all three victims dead.*

USA- Seattletimes.com writes that a 30-car freight train recently made a 48 mile trip through a Colorado desert without anyone in control of the locomotive. The trip was taken as an experiment to test the capabilities of autonomous trains.*

TWIGGS COUNTY, GA- 41nbc.com writes that a head-on collision left two drivers dead this week in Twiggs County. The victims were identified as a 41-year-old man from Wrightsville and a 67-year-old man from Perry. The crash occurred at the intersection of State Route 96 and Patricia Drive in the mid-morning.*

ATLANTA, GA- Cbs46.com writes that a crash occurred this week on Interstate 75 in the southbound lanes. Reports indicate that three vehicles were involved, and one of the drivers died at the scene. The other individuals involved in the collision were also injured.*

NEWBERRY, FL- Mycbs4.com writes that a crash took place in Newberry this week that left two motorists dead. The tragic incident occurred on County Road 235 in the early morning.*

Police have now charged the 23-year-old man with felony hit-and-run, first-degree vehicular homicide, and driving under the influence.*

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA- Cbs46.com writes that a fatal collision occurred on the ramp leading from Interstate 85 to the northbound lanes of Interstate 985 in Gwinnett County. The information regarding the collision is limited at this time, but police stated that one person died in the wreck. The road was reopened later in the evening. *

BLUE RIDGE, GA - Coosavalleynews.com writes that a two-year-old child died in a crash in Blue Ridge this week. The fatal incident took place when the boy and his parents were in a car that was struck by a drunk driver.*

COBB COUNTY, GA- Ajc.com writes that a deadly collision took place on Interstate 285 in Cobb County this week. The afternoon wreck occurred close to the Interstate 75 exchange. The vehicles involved in a wreck included a Toyota Corolla and a box truck. Traffic was slowed down as the lane farthest to the right remained the only one open for several hours following the crash. Details regarding the identity of those involved and the cause of the collision are not yet available. *

MOUNT DORA, FL- Dailycommercial.com writes that a motorcyclist died in a tragic two-vehicle crash in Mount Dora this week. The incident occurred when a driver in a van attempted to turn left at the intersection of US Highway 441 and Old Highway 441. The victim, identified as a 38-year-old man, was traveling south when a 55-year-old man driving northbound turned into the motorcycle's path.*

BATON ROUGE, LA- Wbrz.com writes that a drunk driver caused a deadly collision in Baton Rouge on Florida Boulevard and Green Oak Drive. The suspect drove through a red traffic light and struck the side of another car. According to police reports, the man stated that he tried to apply his breaks when the light changed, but that they did not work.*

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC - Wspa.com writes that a fatal collision occurred this week in Anderson County. The crash happened in the later evening and led to lane closures in both directions. Information regarding the accident is currently limited. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the wreck. *

Truck Driver Hours Extended Because of Coronavirus: Could a Resulting Increase in Coffee  Consumption Put People at Risk?

USA- Fleetowner.com writes that truck drivers who drink coffee and energy drinks in larger quantities are more likely to be involved in crashes than those who drink just one cup of coffee a day. As a result of the coronavirus, truck drivers' hours-of-service rules have been put on hold, meaning that many drivers will be traveling for extremely long stretches of time.*

ATHENS, GA- 11alive.com writes that every collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Atlanta Highway. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, and the images show a truck that crashed onto its roof that appears to have struck a utility pole. The other car suffered extreme damage on its front, especially on the driver’s side.*

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC- Wyff4.com writes that a collision occurred on Interstate 85, causing long delays this week. The incident took place in the very early morning on Highway 153. The events began when a crash involving two cars led to delays on the Highway. A semi-truck then sideswiped a bus, struck another car and then collided with a rescue vehicle.*

The victim, a 65-year-old man, reportedly suffered from a medical incident while traveling on US 278. The man’s van collided with a semi-truck, exploded, and then burst into flames. The victim was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.*

A recent study conducted by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) analyzed pedestrian deaths and collision trends from 2017. The number of pedestrian fatalities in 2017 from traffic crashes averaged to 1 fatality every 88 minutes and almost 115 deaths every week.*

CHATTANOOGA, TN- Newschannel9.com writes that a crash occurred late in the evening on Highway 58 in Chattanooga. The incident led to the death of a motorcyclist. According to reports, a Chevrolet Suburban made a turn from Highway 58 onto Jersey Pike and struck the northbound motorcycle. Responders rushed the motorcyclist to the hospital, where he later died. MACON, GA- Macon.com writes that a veteran had gotten a second chance at life after being homeless, only to be struck and killed in a pedestrian crash. The incident occurred this week on Gray Highway in the evening. Reports state that the 65-year-old victim was crossing the roadway when a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria struck and killed him in front of a McDonald’s. According to the motorist, he failed to see the man in the road before striking him. *

GREENVILLE COUNTY, GA - Greenvilleonline.com writes that one person died in a crash in Greenville County this week near Piedmont. Police identified the victim as a 36-year-old woman from Greenville. The woman was walking across a street at the intersection of West Georgia Road and Augusta Road.*

ATLANTA, GA- Ajc.com writes that a car carrying seven people collided into a MARTA bus in Atlanta this week. The sedan and the bus crashed head-on, killing five of the people in the car. The incident took place in the late evening on Bolton Road near Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.*

DEKALB COUNTY, GA- Ajc.com writes that a driver who caused a severe and deadly crash was sentenced this week to 50 years in prison. The incident occurred when the driver had spent the entire night before up drinking prior to getting into his Mercedes SUV and crashing into the victims’ car. The motorist struck the other vehicle with such force that it traveled 90 feet into the woods and ejected the driver.*

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA- Ajc.com writes that a deadly collision occurred in Clayton County this week. The victim was a 21-year-old man who saw his friend’s stolen truck, which led to an altercation on the roadway. The vehicles both ended up crashing off the side of the road, and the stolen pickup truck landed on the victim’s Lincoln LS. The young man died in the incident.*

COBB COUNTY, GA- Ajc.com writes that a driver was indicted this week in relation to a deadly hit-and-run collision that left a fourteen-year-old boy with fatal injuries. The incident occurred on Cunningham Road when the 51-year-old woman in a 2013 Honda Accord struck the boy while heading southbound.*

GEORGIA - Georgia has one of the strictest motorcycle helmet laws in the country. While some states have no helmet law many states tend to have laws that only apply to younger motorcyclists. Any rider or passenger legally must wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle in Georgia.*

HANOVER, VA- Wric.com writes that a truck driver was killed in a crash in Hanover County this week when a drunk driver crossed over the center line on Interstate 95 and struck the semi head-on. The trucker then lost control of his vehicle and collided with the guardrail, causing the vehicle to roll over. The 53-year-old trucker was trapped in his car and had to be extricated from the truck. He passed away at the scene of the crash.*

MANNING, SC- Manninglive.com writes that a driver caused a deadly wreck in Manning this week in a crash that occurred overnight. The incident took place on Highway 521, close to its intersection with Mallett Road when a Jeep Liberty SUV crossed the center line in the roadway and struck a tractor-trailer head-on.*

DADE COUNTY, GA- Newschannel9.com writes that a car crash in Dade County, Georgia, involving three vehicles caused severe injuries for two individuals. The incident occurred on Highway 11 in the afternoon.* 

OCONEE COUNTY, GA- Wfxg.com writes that a small plane crashed this week in Georgia. The reports indicate that the aircraft was a single-engine plane that came down in the late afternoon. The early information about the incident does not state whether anyone was injured or killed in the crash.*

LITTLE RIVER- SC- Wbtw.com writes that two people suffered injuries in a car crash on Highway 17. Reports indicate that both of the victims are expected to survive their injuries. The incident occurred in the early afternoon.*

NAPLES, FL- Amp.naples.com writes that a man suffered minor injuries after being trapped by debris when a car came crashing through the wall of his home this week. The victim, who lives on 52^nd Street Southwest and 28^th Pace Southwest, described to reporters the moment he woke up covered in drywall and wood.*

KANSAS- Kansas.com writes that five people died in a horrific early morning collision in Kansas this week. The incident occurred when a driver in a pickup truck was traveling in Interstate 70 heading east in the westbound lanes of traffic. The 2001 Ford F-150 crashed head-on into a 1999 Ford Econoline E350 van. The force of the impact led to the pickup truck igniting. Reports indicate that the truck was in the median completely engulfed in flames moments after the wreck.*

ORANGE COUNTY, FL- Clickorlando.com writes that a tragic crash took place when a motorcycle struck a woman and her young daughter, killing both. The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the victims were an almost 34-year-old woman and a child who would have turned eight this April.*

THE VILLAGES, FL- Villages-news.com write that a car crashed into a shopping center in The Villages this week. The incident occurred in the la-teafternoon when a 55-year-old man drove his silver 2008 Mercedes convertible into a hair salon and a liquor store. Two pedestrians sustained critical injuries in the crash.*

USA- A new study indicates that the number of fatal car crashes increases by approximately 6 percent in the week following daylight saving time (DST), according to HEALTHLINE.COM. The likely cause of the spike in deadly wrecks is the sleep deprivation caused by the changing of the time. People are hit with fatigue and are driving with symptoms that are similar to jet lag.*

USA- Fortune.com writes that about 40,000 tragically people died in car crashes in 2018. The overwhelming majority of car crashes are caused by human errors. In fact, a 2015 report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that about 94 percent of collisions are caused by driver mistakes.* 

LEESBURG, GA- Walb.com writes that a Lee County man is working to inform young drivers about the risks of distracted driving. The man tragically lost his son in a car crash several years ago and wants to stress the reality of these horrific collisions.*

NORTH CAROLINA-   Traffic deaths overall have dropped in recent years in Robeson County, North Carolina, according to ROBESONIAN.COM. The news is welcomed in a country that loses tens of thousands of people every year in vehicle collisions. In Robeson County, the fatalities are also down for the second year in a row. The county is historically one of the worst in the state when it comes to vehicle collisions and traffic fatalities.*

JOHNSON COUNTY, GA- 13wmaz.com writes that two people died and two others were injured in separate crashes that occurred in Johnson County within minutes of one another. The first incident took place when a nineteen-year-old driver from Wrightsville attempted to flee police officers and caused a crash wherein his car overturned close to Calvary Church Road. The car ended up on its rooftop. It is not yet clear why the officers were pursuing the teen.*

SOUTH CAROLINA - There have been at least 82 fatalities on South Carolina roads this year, according to THESTATE.COM. In 2018, South Carolina was found to be one of the worst states in the nation for fatal car crashes. In a report that looked at fatalities in each state per population size, South Carolina came in third. According to the study, the state has 20.5 car crash-related fatalities per every 100,000 people. The only other states with higher numbers of reported fatalities were Mississippi and Alabama.*

COLUMBUS, GA- Wtvm.com writes that a driver pulled to the side of the road following a crash that took place on Woodruff Farm Road in Muscogee County. The 26-year-old from Atlanta exited her vehicle and was walking near the scene when another driver on the opposite side of the street collided with a guide wire.*

The victim was in a crash, and after exiting her car, was struck and killed by a utility pole that came down when another driver struck a telephone guide wire.* 

NASHVILLE, TN- Newschannel5.com writes that a driver died in a wrong-way collision that occurred in Antioch. Police are reporting that the victim was in a stolen car and was suspected of a carjacking. The incident took place on Murfreesboro Pike close to the border with Rutherford County in the later evening. Two people carjacked a man who was pulling in his driveway. The suspects used firearms to threaten the owner of a Dodge Charger and then drove away in the stolen car.*

BURKE COUNTY, GA- Wjbf.com writes that several roads in Georgia’s Burke County were closed because of flooding and wet pavement. Prior to the road closures, there had been three collisions in less than 24 hours that resulted partially because of the rain. Injuries were reported in all three incidents. The details regarding those wrecks have not yet been released.*

OCONEE COUNTY, GA- Lexingtonchrinicle.com writes that a plane crash killed three people in Georgia this week. The incident involved a Piper PA-46 plane that was flying from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.*

EAST COBB, GA- Patch.com writes that a driver was recently arrested following a crash that took place in East Cobb. The victim, an eighteen-year-old boy, was thrown from his 2009 Suzuki motorcycle when the woman struck him.*

TAMPA, FL- A recent report indicated that pedestrian deaths are up, and a massive 6,590 people died in pedestrian crashes in 2019, the most fatalities in over thirty years. The fatalities are not evenly dispersed across the country, and five states are responsible for close to half, forty-seven percent, of these pedestrian deaths.*

GEORGIA- Pedestrian fatalities declined by about sixteen percent in the first six months of 2019 in Georgia, according to AJC.com. Reports found that 116 pedestrians were tragically killed in collisions in the first half of 2019 as compared to 137 pedestrian fatalities in the same time in 2018. However, pedestrian fatalities increased by about three percent nationwide during the same period.*

RAWLINS, Wy. — Three people have died, and possibly dozens more have suffered varying injuries in two massive pileups on Interstate 80 near Rawlins, Wyoming. One of the pileup crashes involved approximately 100 vehicles, and another involved 40 more cars. According to a report appearing on Foxnews.com, troopers from the Wyoming Highway Patrol announced in a press release that the first reports of crashes came in around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday in the vicinity of mileposts 181 and 184 in Rawlins. The city of Rawlins is situated about 180 miles west of Cheyenne, Wyoming. The statement from the Wyoming State Patrol indicated that weather probably played a role in the crashes but did not rule out negligence on behalf of any driver. *

RALEIGH, NC- One of Raleigh's busiest roadways may be the subject of safety improvements aimed at protecting pedestrians in the area, according to CBS17.com. Advocates videoed people crossing the intersection and showed that the current signals do not allow for enough time to cross the street.*
